Elves

Elves were once the greatest race on the earth, and possessed a civilization far more advanced and wondrous then that of modern man though less durable. When humanity arrived on the scene the elves first thought them as nothing more then an over confident nuisance, however mankind expanded faster then the elves could possibly have imagined and before long the elves found themselves being pushed westward as humanity grew. When it became clear to the elves that the time of human ascendancy had come some chose to fight while others fled. Those that fought are today known as the high elves, for after they were defeated by the humans on the field of battle they took their culture and fled across the sea to Haven, and are the last vestige of true elven culture. Those that fled are known as the wood elves today. They are the most populace group of elves but have little in connection with their elven past. These elves fled to the woods and to this day live a rustic life doing their best to avoid human contact, some however have decided to have any quality of life they must live among humans. As the mainland was being overwhelmed by humanity, there was a large sect of elves that uncovered knowledge of a long lost god that would grant them the power to vanquish the humans. It was learned this lost god was Lolth, the Demon Queen of Spiders. Most of the elves were horrified to learn that their brethren would even consider siding with such an abomination. The followers of Lolth were infuriated that the other elves would not do what was necessary to win back their homes, so they not only turned their new found power against the humans, but also other elves. What ensued was a bitter war between elf kind, that resulted in the followers of Lolth being driven deep underground.
