Brothers of the Tor
While the elves had great kingdoms above ground the dwarves dug under it, lusting for great mineral wealth. When humanity arrived the Dwarves were less devastated then the elves, but once humanity controlled the surface the Dwarves began to experience a slow decline. Human kings and emperors did not wish to tolerate independent dwarven halls within their lands and though humanity benefitted from trade with the halls, mankind one by one brought the dwarven keeps to their knees until all the dwarven halls lived under the rule of humanity or were forced into the obscure parts of the planet. Most dwarves accept their fate as subjects to human rule, but some of the oldest dwarves still remember a time when a few independent halls dotted the land and tell the youths of the glory lost. These dwarves who remember the past are called the old guard, and although they do not rise up against humanity, they defy it at all times.
